Testimonials

Doug is a calm, clear and patient actor, director and coach who is easy to work with and well respected by his peers and students. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to delve into the world of acting. He is an asset to the community.

BREIGH FOUHY, ACTOR

Doug is an incredibly experienced actor who has a wealth of knowledge he's passed onto myself as a director to use and enable me to better communicate with actors and get the performance I need.

AARON FALVEY, DIRECTOR/PRODUCER

Doug Brooks is a great teacher. He works practically, which helps me as the actor put the note into my body and immediately utilise his notes. As an actor himself he understands the ins and outs of the industry and has many different techniques and tools to choose to help every specific person, he knows how to read what techniques will help certain actors and which techniques might not. As a kind man, he also cares about your process and your journey as a human and an actor. A great coach to learn from.

LEAH JACKSTIES, ACTOR

Thought provoking and compassionate, Doug Brooks uses acting and film to connect us to the very nature of being human.

MICHAEL ORTIZ, WRITER/PRODUCER

Many people will know Doug Brooks as the accomplished actor and director that he is today, I however have been lucky enough to have known him since he was my high school drama teacher at Waimea College in 2008. From when I first met Doug, to the projects I work with him on today, he has always maintained a genuinely encouraging and motivating persona with everyone that he works with. During my schooling years, Doug encouraged my peers and I to partake in short films, facilitating opportunities in film both in and out of school. Thanks to Doug’s never wavering encouragement and guidance during my schooling years, I went onto study film, television and media studies at the University of Auckland and act in regional and international short films. Doug’s knowledge and on-going involvement within New Zealand’s casting and film industry has meant that he has continually put my name forward for acting roles and encouraged me to audition for more varied and challenging characters. Finding a teacher who has made his own professional goals a reality while still finding time to care for and nurture the dreams of others is something that is a rare quality. Doug has an incredible talent and passion for the performing arts and a flair for teaching that is not only enlightening but also fun and inspirational.
